Could be. I don't think that's the real reason though: people back then didn't turn the volume all the way up a lot. But it still could be.

I'm guessing this is from the Spring? I only mention this as I noticed at the beginning some bulbs (both of the flower and of 'watt' kind) and I know for certain that Channel 4 used the bulb theme for Spring trailers in 1986.
