All through the series, people mysteriously fall asleep in public phone boxes. Have they fallen prey to a disease or am I carrying out some trick of the mind on the other end of the line? There are two factors at work here.
First, the group of people subjected to the stunt are particularly suggestible. I know this simply because they chose to answer a public phone that happened to be ringing as they walked past. Most people would ignore it, assuming it was nothing to do with them.

Secondly, once the person answers, I immediately bombard them with a rapid set of confusing instructions and facts. I do this for several minutes without giving give them a break, then follow it by telling them to fall asleep. As seen on the shows, this works.

It's just a trick. He picks people from the street (close to a phone booth) and asks them if he can put them under hypnosis, then when hypnotized he tells them to go to the phone booth and answear the phone where he is on the other line telling them to fall asleep which they do because in suggestable mood under hypnosis.
It's not just random people from the street answering the phone and falling immediately under hypnosis.

I'd imagine it is some kind of loud or uncomfortable noise that shocks the person out of their normal thought process then he gives them a command or suggestion of being tired. Basically breaking a pattern and filling it with a new one.

I dont understand... i want to hear this, to see if it actually works. I'm skeptical untill i hear it and see if i fall asleep.

I myself really want to hear this sound and see if it works on me. Derren so amazed me, so I am going to see his show at Dublin Ireland this march. I recommend also on the trick or treat part named the accident. She also got turn down with cell phone and noise.

They dont hear the noise. Only the person answering to the phone.
