In this video I show you how to do a muzzle flash only using Kdenlive.
You can see the Test video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJYGWAEsweE

You will need
1. The video you want to add the muzzle flash to.
2. A muzzle flash video clip
3. A gun sound effect

You can search the internet with Google or your favorite search engine and look for free sound effects or video clips. Look for ones that say "Public Domain".

I went to www.simplythebest.net for the gunshot sound and to www.detonationfilms.com for the muzzle flash clip. Each site has more clips you can use and there are many other sites where you can find them.

Make sure the muzzle flash clip has a black background. The ones that have a blue or green background you will have to use the Blue Screen effect and that is not covered in this video. Besides using the Screen Transition is so easy and works so well, why bother. :)

  • wtf i dled the clips from detonation films and i put it on sony vegas and its jst a black clip help plz?

  • @arabianxgoober Sorry, I never used Sony Vegas. I don't know what the Screen Transition is in that program.

  • I watched your video. It looks pretty good. :)

  • it helps me not to think about reinstalling windows to use vegas. thanks man. :)

  • @Isaiask8er Sony Vegas is very nice and gives you a little more control over some things but don't underestimate Kdenlive. It's an amazing program in it's own right and is the only editor I've needed for all my videos. There has even been an update since this video was made.

I dropped Windoze after they refused to help me recover after a particularly nasty virus ruined my OS. I'm still using this computer thanks to Linux.

  • I have used final cut pro and kdenlive. kdenlive in my opinion is better in every respect. I even take film classes and my prof. says kdenlive is better, take that apple.

  • Hey, can you make a tutorial on how to put multiple videos on one shot in kdenlive? like instead of one video, you have 2 or more playing simultaneously but each is smaller to fit on the screen. Thanks!

  • LOL!!! XD 4:43

  • @d07sadur Composite and Screen are very similar but Composite usually doesn't turn the black background completely transparent. Maybe your muzzle flash layer already had a transparent background. In that case Composite was the correct transition to use. I'm happy to hear you solved the problem.

  • @d07sadur Make sure you are using the Screen transition so the black background becomes transparent. Otherwise it may be something in your settings. I have not had that issue so I'm not sure I can help. You may want to do a Google search to see if anyone else has had that problem.

  • Very very nice tut, thanks for sharing :)

  • Thanks very good tutorial helped me a lot :)

  • Awesome. Thanks.
