Saw it on a borrowed DVD JJ. It SUCKED Ferengi balls! Sure as hell not going to the theatre to see it. I could hardly sit through this ill conceived, juvenile, "lens flare" filled shitfest you called Star Trek.
the thing is what else could they have done in the prime universe picard retired after nemesis see star trek countdown kirk is dead or is he see william shatner books set after genarations so the only thing to do was create a timeline that is very diffrent besides the prime universe has a mirror universe so maybe we will get a mirror one for the new timeline
Yes, of course they are showing the movie in IMAX theaters to make more money. But that's true for all non-IMAX films shown in IMAX theaters. I guess, some people just enjoy the bigger screen even if the additional picture quality isn't there.
With TDK you saw the difference because it had IMAX scenes next to 35mm film scenes so you could compare them directly. With Star Trek and other movies shot only on normal film most people will never know because there is no shift between IMAX & non-IMAX.
None of the big movies co-released in IMAX recently (including last year's Dark Knight) were shot with IMAX cameras. TDK actually shot some of the big action scenes with those but most of the film was shot with normal film cameras. I guess, shooting it all with IMAX cameras would be a) technically too difficult (because they are much bigger and heavier than normal cameras) and b) too expensive.
Basically, what they do is upscale the 35mm film to IMAX resolution.

I saw Star Trek opening night in IMAX and it rocked. The other two times were in 35 mm theatres.

i would have loved this new star trek film if not the fact that they're basically rebooting the franchise by changing the timeline
