A number of old jingles from the historic radio station WNEW AM 1130 in New York City. The jingles start with the famous Nat King Cole Jingle that was recorded live in studio when he was a guest performing live on the air. WNEW is historic as it was the first station ever to play records on the air. Before stations started playing records they would either have an in house orchestra that would play live or the stations would broadcast from a remote location, such as a hotel ballroom, the band that was playing live there at the time. WNEW was on the air from 1934 until 1992 when it was sold to Bloomberg and became WBBR broadcasting business news and an era of great broadcasting came to an end.

  • What about Martin Block's " Make Believe Ballroom Show was from the 1940's in to 1960's

  • The theme to the "Make Believe Ballroom" is posted already on You Tube by another person.

  • I forgot to ask is that really WBW in that poster you posted? I also want to respond to friendsfamilyaccount by asking did they still play Streisand, Bennett and Cal Tjader in the 80's?

  • The picture of the man holding his nose IS William B Williams. I believe it was a full page ad taken out by the station in one of the NY papers in the 50's or 60's.

  • Great clip, great jingles. But 1130 in New York is now WBBR, not WBBM (that's CBS in Chicago).

  • Oops, sorry about that. What ever it is now it sucks!! Changed the Description to WBBR.

  • Those jingles are rich like a rich chocolate cake. Heavy on production and come out with so much class.

WNEW 1130 was a class act.

  • I am afraid you can't go home again. The music is still here but there are practically no jocks capable of doing what Willie B and Ted Brown et al did.

  • Memories. Even as a kid, I thought the jingles were masterpieces. Such memories! Thanks for posting. I'll never forget WNEW. My parents had it on everyday! How nice to be able to hear them again! "It's springtime in New York...."

  • just so wonderful to hear these jingles!

    i grew up with them!

  • Thank god for Youtube

  • My mom always had WNEW playing on the old radio in the living room ('50s, '60s). This was not a portable radio but a big conslole radio.

  • Internet Radio 365 now has the WNEW broadcasts, jingles and all, with all the great tunes.

  • Awesome collection of classic jingles from a legendary radio station!

  • These jingles bring back memories of growing up in Northern NJ. The audio sounds great.

  • ok folks - did we ever figure out the name of the girl singer doing these ? she melts me ...

  • "We've got, quite a fewfriends - who live in and around New York..." takes me back to my Ma's kitchen. These jingles were pure works of art!!

  • My Goodness!! What wonderful memories of sitting in the back seat of my parents Chrysler in the 60's and 70's and hearing these jingles ring out all the time every hour between the best music! I used to love some of these just as much as the music itself! Thank you again! Does anyone own the copyrights to these?
