Cover of "New Lace Sleeves" by Elvis Costello. If you know me you know that I pretty much love every thing that's ever come out of Elvis Costello. I'd treasure a log of his poop if i came across it. This is one of my favorite songs by him. The chord structure of the song is amazing, and the lyrics are so eloquent. listen to the first verse and tell me it doesnt paint a perfect picture of the morning after... It's a song about opening your eyes and making your own decisions, not just believing whats told to you.

  • when elvis sings 'though i know they've got their problems, I wish I was one of them", does he mean he wishes he could be one of their "problems" or "one of them" as in to be in their shoes. is he saying he wishes he was born with the silver spoon in his mouth, or does he wish he could be their problem, their nemesis, worst nightmare. how do you interpret it?

  • hmm good q... i interpret it as he wishes he had it so easy... but i feel like it's sarcastic. interpreting it as he wishes he was one of their problems is just as valid tho, for some reason i get a vibe that the song is more about the faults of that sort of upbringing. maybe he's commenting on how they're so envied, but they dont live in the real world?

  • I agree w/you in that it is an amazing chord progression; all the more reason to give it another listen for accuracy as it doesn't take well to change. Nice vocal and effort. Thanks for posting.
