Diesel Geo Metrol....IT LIVES!

First test drive of the Kubota 3 cylinder 995cc powered Metro. Home built adapters, stock Geo 5 speed trans, Suzuki Swift clutch flywheel pressure plate, they said it wouldn't work. Its no dragster but likes 35 to 55 mph real well.

what kind of fuel economy does this thing get? My guess is somewhere between 55-65 mpg?!

@billydudeiskewl It got a little over 70 mpg. I had a calibrated fuel container on the passenger floor. The course I drove was country roads with a few small hills with 28 miles per circuit, only 2 stop signs, gas tank empty and just me driving between 35 and 45mph most of the way.

Does it end up somewhat undergeared with the lower revving engine?

@blibbax No, the diesel runs slower but seems to have the power on tap earlier. Shifting through the lower gears is fine. But 24 horsepower isn't enough to pull 65mph on the freeway without holding it to the floor with nothing left in reserve. 35 to 50 seemed to be a great comfortable cruising speed realm. The weird thing is shifting at 3600rpm from first to second and having the governor cut in is like hitting the brakes. Your foot begs to ask What Happened???

i believe one of the reasons for all the regulations on cars is simply a favor to the paymasters of big biz. The more regs, the fewer start ups will be able to afford to build a vehicle. I live in a "free" country. Why can't I choose to buy a very cheap truck with few safety features and a super high mileage, weak engine, if that is what I want? That would be called "competition" and a "free market". There is no such thing in America today.

You seriously need to revisit grade school, you're having a lot of trouble deciphering my plain English. You should know that those regulations apply to car manufacturers, not car dealerships.
