In the infernal triple-digit heat of the Lower Sonoran desert near Phoenix, Daniel Lionheart harvests a breakfast of saguaro and prickly pear fruits. Meanwhile, he displays the contents of his "BOB" and shares his opinion on the benefits of limited, stripped-down survival gear.

  • Thanks Tim! I think the goal should be to not NEED anything. If everything we need is free in nature, waiting for us to make use of it, then a BOB (and everything in it) is just for convenience and ease, nothing else. As you say, there's nothing at all convenient about hauling a lot of weight on your back. Lately I've done away with even a sleeping bag when going on overnight hikes. A sheet and a Mexican blanket roll up tighter and serve the same purpose. In summer, anyway.

  • Yeah, they taste amazing! No new camera, unfortunately. I just didn't have to zoom in as close on this video. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • i like the way you think. lighter is better.....these huge packs with all this crap are nice but hell to carry !!!! i usually go totally primitive where weight is even more of a concern. you put out some good info. thank you

    Tim

  • I tried prickly pear about two years ago, I was surprised at how well the tasted and they grow everywhere. Did you get a new camera, the picture seemed much clearer this time or was the camera just having a good day.
