Only the left side of my 3DS is loose. The right side is firm when closed.
Caused by too much shaking? I shake it sometimes to get Mii play coins. Normal or abnormal?

Edit:
Aug 10/2011

My device has recorded 125,402 steps to date and more than 300 hours of play/usage.

My conclusion: It may appear as a defect but is actually due to the top screen's ribbon going through that hinge. There has been no change to its looseness.

  • @sewu44 It just doesn't make the click sound when it snaps into place at 135 degrees anymore but other than that, it's holding up fine.

I've had it since launch... that's what 5 months now? 300+ hours usage. On top of that I got a free 3DSware game and 20 classics too. Nintendo's doing a good job on not disappointed their buyers with the recent price drop.

My conclusion is that the top screen's ribbon goes through that particular hinge hence it's that way.

  • Mine is JUST like that. and it's a little wobbly.

  • It's because of the analog stick it happens to every 3ds

  • i had the same thing, multiple times with the first DS, eventually, the cable running through it will snap, and you need to replace it to get the device working again, so be carefull about that :P (at the end, the whole upper screen broke off :( )

  • MY 3ds doesn't make a ''CLICK'' sound when it locks in place is this normal? please reply.

  • My ds lite did that once I went out with my mom and I left my ds on my computer table and o didn't play with it or anything so wen I came home wen I opened it it had a cracked hinge on the right of my ds lite it was huge and the bad part was it got loose and when I would close it I would see the right side cracked hinge and u could see the inside of the ds I was really mad and it was scary cuz it was sitting there wen I left my house

  • mine doesnt do that, but it wobbles kinda bad...any ideas?DX its annoying me when i play a motion game like face raiders

  • I've had mine since Christmas 2011 and there is some movement of the left hinge. It moves about the same as in the video - or maybe a bit less - but only when shut. It clicks open properly at the correct angle and there is no noticeable hinge movement when its open.

I had a DS Lite some time ago which had hinge failure and it had quite tight hinges.

  • i do not get it

  • so should i stop shaking my 3ds?

  • people say the 3ds is shake proof, so you wont get any mii play coins, but it could be because of you shaking it

  • I have that exact same problem with my 3DS, i also had a similar problem with my DSLite, does Nintendo do repairs, can i send it in and try and get it fixed. I'm worried incase it turns out like my last DS (its pretty much pacman, if you get what i meen).
