A slideshow of dead boys, set to a lovely song. The boys are Kurt Cobain, D Boon of the Minutemen, Darby Crash of the Germs, Johnny Thunders/Jerry Nolan/Arthur Kane of the New York Dolls, Joe Strummer of the Clash, Angus Maclise of the Velvet Underground, Joe Chithalen (local musician), Chet Baker, Billy Tipton, Brandon Teena, Jobriath and Freddy Mercury. (special thanks to a commenter who remarked I somehow managed to get Peter Laughner wrong - teach me to check a link closer, because I would then have known it was Jimmy Zero I had a picture of, not Peter (Peter was lovely, and doomed) - and Jimmy isn't dead, even...though, of course, he was a Dead Boy... :) ).

  • YOU FORGOT THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!! Sweet George Harrison. And Johnny Lennon. Oh yeah, I'm 14.

  • @newallthestars100 - George would have been a good choice - he was sort of cute. John, not so much (though he is my second favourite Beatle, after George (Paul's my least favourite)).

  • the guy at 2:28 looks like captain hook

  • @TheMoonspirityue1 - He does, kind of. He was a local (to my town) musician named Joe Chitalen.

  • I don't think that putting pictures of dead boys is really accurate to the song. I'm beginning to think that this song is about falling in love with a transvestite. I watched a video where Antony was singing this song to a room of transvestites. So.. I'm thinking that's what it's about. The "dead boy" is figurative for a boy who is no longer a boy.

  • I'm really happy you included Brandon Teena in this :) A lovely tribute to him and the others here

  • @naturallyhi3 "i tell my family i wish you could have met him"

  • @naturallyhi3 The song was written about someone afflicted with AIDS, but there is no correct interpretation. That's the lovely thing about music.

  • I think Stiv Bators should be in this, it works on two levels.

  • I've had a soft spot for Bobby Driscoll for a couple of years <3

  • @Timmybear Yeah some people only support diversity and acceptance as much as it takes to ensure they are protected, and I think some gay people feel if they hostile to those who are considered "weirder" than them, then that will normalise them to the general heteronormative body politic, it doesn't work, but it doesn't stop people trying.

The again some people are just bigoted, hateful scum :/

  • @TWard82 - There is no such thing as one meaning to a song. Meaning is in the ear of the listener. Much as with literature, if the text can support the reading, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' take.
