This is how to strengthen and fill the weakest part of a cloth case. String is used to partially fill in and thicken the folded edge of the case where there is usually only fabric. This method came from the practice of string filling the caps on leather (tight back) Library Style bindings. I have applied it to cloth case binding for strength, functional and aesthetic reasons.

  • WOW

  • I noticed you only have paper on the spine. I use to put a piece of slim cardboard on the cover spine for strength. Do I risk tearing or breaking by not using paper or string?

  • Hi Sage

Excellent video, and a superb finish to your book.

Many thanks for posting this film.

    Best wishes

    Billie :)
