two of my most noteworthy specimens so far in my 2011 crayfish trapping season in lake ronkonkoma n.y. long island.its only late july, and i still have a good sporting chance at catching more rarities before the frost hits.my three year old son insisted we keep the purple male for breeding, instead of selling it on ebay for 40bucks.hes right.id be a fool to not try and preserve this rare gene for the future generations to also have and cherish as i do.usually, ill boil them up and freeze them.but not these two.there babies go back! the female is quite possibly the largest wild-caught specimen on long island for 2011!can someone produce a larger one on long island?id love to see it!

  • Where is the best spot to catch crayfish? I went buy yesterday with a net and caught a very small baby in the weeds. Would like to catch one more. Thank you for the great videos - you have had some luck with color morphs!!

  • @epb471 NO, its NOT luck, its 25 seasons of selective breeding!! any morphs i get are used for breeding at least 2 clutches, then sold on ebay.the extra babies(normal colored) go back to the wild and carry those special genes over for 2 or 3 more seasons, and every clutch has a few dozen special ones, which i catch 2 seasons later as nice morphs.and by then the parents are 7-9in long and ready for harvest! careful management has kept them going good over the decades. be sparing to the females.

  • This doesn't pertain to this video but when does the fishing at lake ronkankama pick up in the fall

  • @MCthebassman yes,get there NOW!! everything is out and fattening for winter!! nighttime is best.closer to shore or in swamp.ive dented the cray pop a bit this year,so im slowin down with them.3weeks left of good pickins.get your worms at the boat ramp, and get there!

  • That is awesome. I am amazed they have been there for 25 years!! I do not intend to take more than 1 or 2. I have no interest in depleting the crayfish population! Currently have an electric blue crayfish given to me by a good friend. Guess we have to wait to spring for them to come back out. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your "treasures" with You Tube.
