China Gets the Bomb

Film clip of the 1964 atom bomb detonated by the Chinese at Lop Nor in a remote part of Xinjiang. The Kennedy and later Johnson administrations new the Chinese were close to getting the bomb and had observed preparations for the test with U2 and satellite surveillance. China was only the 5th country to have the bomb at the time, achieving this status only a few years behind France.
