"Primacy, Not Piracy - Why Content Matters More Than Ever"

How can a traditional newspaper publishing company survive and thrive in the digital age? According to Dr. Mathias Döpfner, the CEO of Axel Springer AG, it's by breaking down the silos around the content, harnessing technology, and embracing all the new ways to tell a story. Above all, Dr. Döpfner believes that great content is worth charging money for, and that future business models are still possible with content primacy despite the age of social media and free online information.

Dr. Döpfner already leads a company that derives 25% of its revenue from digital, and he is considered one of the publishing world's leading figures - pointing the way to the digital future. In this wide-ranging President's Lecture to the Berlin School in March 2011, he spoke about his industry's evolution, his company's necessary transformation, and the leadership challenges he faces. As someone who studied Musicology and German and began his career as a music critic and journalist, Dr. Döpfner is also a shining example of how a "creative" can lead and inspire a creative enterprise.
