@JohnnieNaked , they are only bad when they are applied incorrectly and incomplete and short sighted. Read up on Long Term Capital Management. Their mathematical models failed fantastically because they mirrored the narrowness of perspective of the people who wrote them.

I suppose it's slightly coincidental and ironic that someone sharing his last name has built a career by seeing the world from a completely opposite perspective. I've often wondered how illogical the quants could be so as to seek to measure, quantify and predict something that they don't understand (human behavior). Equations are only as good as the information that is used form them.
