Hes a great pass protector...elite. Also the QB needs to learn how to step up in the pocket. I saw him get beat a couple of times, but for the most part he was clearing people out.

Overall he was the best OT on the board, a need for the Lions. I think he's better than average. Had some good protection in this game vs. a good team. Needs more strength (See 4:30 when he gets pushed back into the QB). Pass protection better than run. Run blocking not dominant but he usually attaches to def player and doesn't let go. Good athleticisim too. I'll give the Lions a B for this pick. Backus isn't awesome but does a good job...something Reiff will prob end up doing.

Yup, my point exactly. If Joe Thomas and Jake Long have shorter arms than he does and be good, why can't Riley Reiff be at their level. Although, I don't think Reiff is elite at this point of his career but I think he's almost there. He doesn't have elite strength or great athleticism but he's a true technician that knows how to use his size, and he knows to close out rushers... plus he has a mean streak that the lions like. Also, most of the blocks he missed weren't completely his fault.

yah but jake long and joe thomas are not getting constantly beat by their guys, and this is in college. I have very little doubt that he would be able to keep with those athletic pass rushers in the nfc

I'll have to disagree with you, he is nothing like Gosder. Reiff has a great motor and he has great awareness. Also, if you've watched him play he never takes a play off even after he's finished off a block he's always looking for the next one. Nevertheless, he does have short arms but that shouldn't affect him. Jake Long and Joe Thomas have even shorter hands than he does.
He's gonna be a franchise left tackle, and he'll make our running game that much better.

He is nothing special, gets beat alot. definetly not a franchise lefttackle. he is another gosder. I would have rather had the lions draft the guard that the steelers took a pick later.
