  • hey, i am an unexperienced ear, i don't even know the terminology you speak of in this video, i just happened to be listening to covers and yours is the best I've heard so far. so what i have to say is you fucking rock, and you don't suck. you even got the parts where josh homme kicked in with a bits of freestyle and such. this is great man i want to be able to do this some day.

  • @christofare I was just addressing the different effects I used to get the sound of the recording used on the TCV album. Thanks for the reply.

  • What gauge strings are you using, btw? And what q-zone pedal?

  • @Kalixter I was using 11-48 slinky. The heavy string was flopping real bad and I would suggest at least a 58 for the top for this song. A Dunlop Qzone is just a fixed wah/ notch filter.

  • Hey Luke, this sounds awesome. I can't find tabs that sound remotely close to your version. Can you help me out?

I have the transition down, but the intro/verse and chorus has got me stumped.

  • That's probably since I don't read tabs and just learned this by ear. I will try to do a detailed how to explaining the notes and stuff in another vid coming soon. I just wanted to make sure there would be interest if I took the time to make such a vid. Thanks

  • What's the tuning ?

  • Just for anyone interested, the Q-Zone is creating that 'nasal' sound, like leaving a wah in a relatively mid position.

But, his base tone for almost everything is from an Ampeg, cranked. That is IMO, much more important to get his tone that the Fulltone or Q-Zone.

Do check out Catalinbread's SFT pedal for Ampeg in a box (NAILS his tone short of an actual Ampeg) and it makes a good stab at the heavier tone.

Great playing and tone, btw, wish I could have the oppurtunity to play a cracked Ampeg

  • Great cover man! looks like a gotta find a qzone.

  • @niixj

    Ampeg V4/V2

  • I really dig your candor and attitude. And your ability. Good damn job. :)

  • You've tackled that tone. Any tips on getting a QOTSA type sound? I've been trying forever trying to get something similar.

  • Thanks for the vid, you really helped me out with this song.

  • @BJBorchert93 I appologize, I see you've already answered that question. Thanks anyway!

  • Just curious, what guage string are you using for the low A?

  • its hard for me to tell the difference between with or without the qzone. what do you think? oh by the way that is such an awesome tone!!!!
