Well the music of the 00s does owe a lot to bands like Arcade Fire, White Stripes, The Strokes, The Killers, Modest Mouse, the Mountain Goats, and Radiohead (even if their more impacting stuff came out in the 90s)
and those are just the more mainstream alternative bands
I don't know your taste in music, but if the current authentic music scene has been characterized by anything its these bands

Not everything released lately has been emo or overproduced hip-hop

OH yeah, I love those bands. I'm not saying we haven't had iconic bands this decade. Just we haven't had anything different. All those fantastic bands that have shaped this generations music haven't pushed the line... I just feel like now-a-days anything that has the potential to change the way we look at music has been systematicly wiped out.... But hey, maybe this generation is defined by the Rave and the (Falsely named) "RnB" And it is in fact us that are forgotten.. I dunno. New genre needed

I like how so many of those bands representing "now" are so painfully plaigarizing "then".

The Killers have not an ounce of originality.

yeah and modest mouse just ripped off the pixies
and the mountain goats are just copying neutral milk hotel
and radioheads just copying aphex twin now right?

a band doesn't have to be completely original to be good

Those are influences, The Killers are a carbon copy.
