Just half an hour out of Herat is a Place where victory over the Taliban meant nothing. It resembles a small city carved from mud - the population somewhere between 150,000 and 300,000. The road to Maslakh will be closed soon -- if it snows heavily this winter, those who didn't make the perilous journey from the provinces face starvation. For Allam Farouk's family, the journey may not have been worth it. Their four year old son has just been buried at Maslakh. The possibility of a measles epidemic looms and extensive malnutrition increases vulnerability to infection. At the transit centre, they are handing out blankets and water bottles to new arrivals -- this will allow them to survive their first few weeks. But lack of a proper registration system is causing problems -- the food agencies don't know who's a genuine newcomer and who's fraudulently applying for more material aid. In the camp, and in Herat, there's a ready market for those who've manipulated the system. Officials are so frustrated that they are thinking of starting from scratch and re-registering every single person in the camp. The crisis is only going to become more acute. To what extent can international aid provide effective relief ?

oh god look at all these people suffering.... Lets do the right thing.... Tell the local population in air drop pamphlets that we will NUKE the place in say "7 days", unless we have our demands met that ALL taliban be handed over.... Wanna see how fast ppl do as there told when they know they will die? Pretty sure we would have thousands of taliban in 1 day. Wouldnt even have to drop a bomb or kill anybody... but hell, if it came down to it, and the local population would rather die. so be it.

Isn't it strange how the word 'drought' is used to describe the fact of Islamic genocide. If people in their hundreds of thousands are forced to flee their homes because of Islamic Jihadi bandits, what happens next? Yes, they end up in huge camps unable to feed themselves. The other key word is often 'ethnic tension' or 'tribal war'; another euphemism for Islamic genocide by banditry and robbery.

What is so sad is that Afghanistan was once a prosperous Buddhist nation at the crossroads of great trade routes. That is why the Arab slavers fought so hard to conquer it and divest it of all its wealth. Since then it has been an impoverished backwater run by Islamic bandits and warlords. Pakistan too, was once the mother of a great civilisation. Now they couldn't buy a can of paint for an Islamic whitewash without fighting and killing.
