This is a wierd video for me. First I'm not American, and I'm not necessarily a fan of Nixon. I am however a fan of Oliver Stone's film Nixon and the score composed for it by John Williams. I particularly love the final scene in that film and after searching for the actualy speech that Nixon said himself, decided to put together a video, using Nixon's original speech, John Williams original score, and pictures inspired by the way Oliver Stone directed the scene. Hope you enjoy!

  • This is why we need Nixon, now more than ever.

  • @pianobanter Agreed. The music in the background was beautiful. I'm no fan of Nixon, but what we saw in this scene was a man who tried hard but made too many human errors.

  • @nuts4clara nothing obnoxious about it....its a brilliant score by John Williams from the same scene in Oliver Stone's "Nixon". The music is understated where it needs to be, and forceful where it befits. The score fits this heartbreaking speech like a glove and, although the words and sentiment are as strong without the music, i commend the uploader for providing an alternative presentation.

  • Could someone please eliminate that obnoxious background music from this video? IT'S ANNOYING!!!!!

  • I'm not American, but I think Nixon conducted his country very well, in the middle of cold war and Vietnan war which is not easy.Though he lied about some government stuff, others lied too. Just remember Bush and the mass destruction weapons, Clinton and the trainee's affair, etc. But at the end of the day, all them were very important for America. Nixon, in his time, was massacred by the press. Maybe it's time now to impartially review his turn, giving him a different, more realistic image

  • BEAUTIFUL SPEECH nixon may have made some mistakes NO PRESIDENT IS PERFECT NOT EVEN REAGAN OR CLINTON OR OBAMA!!! and nobady knows what is true about watergate except nixon and i don't care about watergate but i'll tell you and i'm NOT ashamed to tell you this apart from George HW BUSH i think Nixon was the GREATEST president of the United States and if you wanna know why i say that all you need to do is ask

  • God bless you for this clip of yours. Everyone who has read Richard Nixon's biography and have seen Oliver Stone's movie understand you. The 37th President of the United States was not a perfect man, like anyone of us. Things just happened to him.

  • First off...nice job with the music and pics. Absolutely stunning. This is probably one of the greatest speeches ever given. "Only when you have been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain." Great words. Too bad that Watergate screwed things up for him. He could have been in the top three of best presidents.

  • Your video is good. However, on the part where Nixon is giving the best part of the speech "never get discouraged. Always do your best" and all of that.... the music while I understand it was written to crescendo (get louder), but the music was so loud at that point at about the 7:49 mark that it drowned him out, and I could barely hear him. Just saying
