Here the west bound train from Montreal motors through Pickering - this is the busiest transportation corridor in the world.
This train is being pulled by a Locomotive P42DC made by General Electric.
A VIA Rail train being pulled by this locomotive operates at a cost of $0.16 per person, per kilometre, whereas a car operates at a cost of $0.23 per person, per kilometre.
The engine in this type of locomotive is 12 times more powerful than the engine on a bus. In fact, this locomotive can pull 1.2 times the number of passengers - plus the dining and baggage cars - and still remain the most energy-efficient transport option (for the same fuel consumption).
The train is the least polluting choice for inter-city travel.
Top speed of 160 km/h is attained on all routes where this locomotive is used.
The power of the locomotive is clear! The future of the car is being shaped by the same technology that makes a locomotive work - one of the most efficient power devises ever devised.
The future of the auto industry in North America is being shaped by a few individual innovators, such as Neil Young who is spearheading an amazing zero emission vehicle. Young's team is commited to perfecting a clean power technology system that provides economic savings for the car owner, helps to save the planet, and enhances the security of the world.

It's kinda funny, in Canada, basically, the only major Sector that is still, and doesn't seem to be changing, in American Imperial Units... Well, at least it is in Nova Scotia.

@saylesconfidential Agreed, especially for Canada, the rail system is such a HUGE part of our history, maybe even the rail system helped out Canada more than any other country in terms of holding the entire country together......

Our trains are used for haling grain and other heavy produce, which electric trains would suck for.

exactly , i moved to europe like 5 years ago , man , even in some post communist countries , that still got shitty ass 40 year old trains , they reach speeds of 170-180 km/h , this isnt even fast , a fast train is over 300 km/h like the ICE in Germany , i dont get why in Canada and the states , they dont use electric trains , theyr way better and faster .

This is NOT high speed, what the United States has is just barely high speed! We need worldwide HIGH speed trains, like the TGV, in all nations so that transportation can be enjoyable, not slow for the majority of a ride and then fast for about ten minutes! It's too bad America and Canada don't fund their rail systems enough...
