This idea was very well presented, but I'm not really convinced it's a good way to learn to speak Chinese generally. I think it might be good to learn fixed phrases, lines in a play, lines in a poem, etc. but I'm not sure it will help during conversation where you are having to form sentences on the fly.

I agree with you that this may not be the best way to learn to speak Chinese generally, but I think for a few phrases and sentences here and there that don't completely conform to grammar or simply don't make much sense to you , this may serve as a shortcut!

Why isn't pinyin dumped as a romanization? It makes little sense and is so far removed from how english is actually pronounced. The transliteration that you used to help Eliza approximates the sounds so much better. Most other asian languages like Cantonese,Japanese and Korean use romanizations that make sense.Foreigners would learn much quicker if pinyin was dumped.I always felt the reason they don't dump it is mainly for political reasons.Everyone knows it's NOT the most efficient system.
