Imagine a community where everyone was included, regardless of their age or level of frailty. A
community where loneliness, isolation or depression are no longer common issues for older
people. A community where everyone values the wisdom and contribution of their older citizens.
In the first half of 2009 workshops were held across Australia through UnitingCare Australia to help build the capacity of our community to work towards that vision.
These workshops were made possible through a one-off grant from the Australian Government Minister for Ageing, The Hon. Justine Elliot, to address the social isolation of older Australians.
The Training DVD is presented byTed Smeaton from Inspiring Communities who introduces ideas of Asset Based Community Development and starts a conversation about how to include older people in community.
Asset Based Community Development, or ABCD, is a powerfulbased on the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach which is based on the belief that no strong and vital community is built out of perceived weaknesses. Everyone has strengths that can be used to build a better community.
We encourage you to take the opportunity over these 5 modules to talk, learn, create possibilities,
make new connections and develop networks of people and organisations whom you can work to
develop local initiatives.
