I'M A USER MYSELF, NOT THE CREATOR OF D-GIG. I CAN NOT OFFER ANY SUPPORT FOR THIS PRODUCT. IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION, CONTACT THE PEOPLE AT MAGRATHEAN.CA .

---

Do you want your own *local* Second Life SIM for testing? Completely free? You might be interested in Magrathean Technologies' D-GiG LiveSIM (based on OpenSim).

No installation required. This standalone SIM will boot directly from CD-ROM on a separate x86 machine in your LAN (or within VMWare or VirtualBox, if you prefer).

IMPORTANT: The LiveSIM is NOT connected to the official Second Life grid. It is your private SIM at home. Feel free to be "your own Linden". Or grief yourself. Whatever. Just run+fun! :)

I'm using LiveSIM for testing all kinds of content (especially textures) before wasting another L$10 for uploading my stuff to the "real" Second Life.

This clip demonstrates my first experiments with D-GiG. Play the high-quality version for better graphic detail. Enjoy!

  • Just curious. So you can't interact with other avatars right? Also, if you have a tamp or perm ban on your account, will you still be able to acess it?

  • Only if someone else is logging on to your server, you could interact with him/her. :) But your server will not be connected to the Second Life grid. It will basically be a "stand-alone Second Life" at home.

That's why I'm using D-GiG mainly for testing, especially new textures (since uploads are free too, of course).

  • Questions? Can I still use the Second Life viewer (browser, whatever its called) to go to another grid? And in a practical way, how will this work? By Teleporting, Star Gates, etc. or are the grids completely separate?

    Thankyou

  • The Second Life viewer can be used for both, SL and D-GiG alternately (using the normal SL icon on the desktop plus a new D-GiG icon as shown in my video).

The two grids are separate - by default D-GiG is running in your local home network only. There is no direct exchange of objects, money or teleporting between the two grids. But D-GiG is still very useful (i.e. for testing) and fun.

  • too bad this won't link up with SL, reaaalllyyyy wish it did. Can't LL drop prices for sims!? I mean geze, 200 bucks USD amonth for a full region? little steep

  • true. i agree. it would be nice having some "universal grid" with all kinds of SIMs united. not many people can afford a full Linden-SIM.
