To lovers of steam railroading, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad ranks as one of the classic railway rides, offering spectacular scenary and vintage 3 foot gauge steam in the Colorado and New Mexico mountains.
This video concentrates on the strenuous 4 percent (1 in 25) climb from Chama New Mexico to the 10,015 foot Cumbres Pass, and onwards into the Los Pinos Valley. All the best photo locations are detailed. It provides a comprehensive guide to the most easily accessible parts of the line.
All three 2-8-2 locomotives types used in recent years are featured, the K-27 #463, K-36's #484, 487, 488 and 489 and K-37 #497. Scenes in Chama Yard are followed by full-throttle action, both single and double-headed, with maps and narration. The film has scenes from 1997, 2000 and 2003 and has a brief historical introduction to the line and gradient profile together with several on-train scenes throughout the climb from Chama to Cumbres Pass with 463 double-heading 489.
Filmed in digital video/stereo sound with some digitally remastered Hi8 scenes. The DVD version includes a photo location/chapter list and the option to view the video with or without narration.

Sorry, but the British narrator makes it sound like we're on safari observing a ridiculous- looking bird that should have gone extinct quite a while ago!
