Awesome piece of games hardware - predates the NeoGeo Home console by 3 years. And of the two I know which dream console I would have preferred to have - the X68000 had a huge variety of Hit arcade game ports/conversions from all the big arcade companies. NeoGeo mainly had games developed by SNK themselves.
Big shame it was never released outside of Japan - but then again I could never have afforded the extravagant cost of such a luxury back then.....though now I can afford anything, LOL.

This machine was nothing more than arcade machine hardware stuffed in a tower with a floppy drive.
Nothing more than a game machine

@JayArgonaut YES, the only thing they had in common is 68000

@maiki60fps lol I think they meant similar as in using the same family of Motorola CPU's. That's about all they had in common.

motorola was once the dominant cisc processor conductor through 80s. until x86 came along and knock motorola out of mainstream market. when pentium release in 1993 it had announce demise of company in cpu market....until it start made cell phone. but now iphone come out and knock it off the market....poor motorola...

I have never heard of "the Sharp X68000", it seems amazing! that seems better than jamma cps2!

369000yen?! That was insane even for prices back then.

I'm guessing that the FM Towns was superior, but I also think it was released later. Not sure.
X68000 similar to ST? Man, it is much much better and more powerfull system than Amiga+ST altogether! It can easily run RYGAR arcade version.... as it does in fact...

The conversions were really good due to the fact that the custom chipset was similar to arcade machines and the conversions were performed by companies like Konami. The problem with the Amiga was that someone else had to buy a license and they did not have access to as much info on the games, often the games turned out half assed... Street Fighter II on the Amiga was a good example of how not to do a conversion.
