This is how I teach my 6th graders all the uses of a comma. I play it everyday for a week, they eventually have the song memorized (with lyrics put up on the Promethean Board) to help them out.

  • Hey guys. Sorry, I had to remove your comments because it said some students names in them. I'm fine with you making comments on this video, just please don't mention any specific students by name. I want keep their privacy since I posted this on Youtube. That's why I filmed this video so you couldn't see any students faces. - Mr. Hinds

  • Hello Mr. Hinds,

I am also a sixth grade Language Arts teacher, and I too use parodies of songs to teach my students the rules of grammar. I love your video! I am stealing your idea and using it in my classroom with a twist. Each time I parody a song I dress up as the original artist and give myself a new name, and my alter-ego is the substitute for the day. • Dear Mr. Hinds,

I am a part-time professional trainer, responsible for teaching adults to write, edit and format emails correctly. We are struggling with commas. Is it OK for me to show your video to my classes in the future?

    Thanks,

  • Mr. Hinds,

I am an English 10 teacher, and I think this is GREAT! What a clever way to get students to know how to use commas!!! I would LOVE to have a copy of the powerpoint/ lyrics and a way to uplink the audio if you would not mind. I teach a tested area, so it would be such a treat to do something a little unique. Thank you for your time. My email is bnlavorgna@yahoo.com

  • @scotthinds1 Do you have a copy of the lyrics or a powerpoint of them? I am a 7th grade language arts teacher and this would be amazing for my students. I have tried to listen to the words and copy them, but some are hard to translate. Any help you give me would be great!
