  • @Organist6792 A lot of people feel "called" to be singers, actors, artists, pastors, etc. That doesn't mean they will or should go on to do that until he/she has shown they have the skill to do so.

  • @Organist6792 - Now you're getting into another subject entirely. No, absolutely not -- just because someone feels "called" to something does not mean they are equipped to do that.

  • As someone who teaches service playing all day long, I am more than comfortable with my statement.

  • Someone then said I was "cruel" for pointing that out. Those who want to take offense will always find a way to take offense.

  • I said the guy is clearly just playing for fun....and by his registrations (and yes his mistakes), this is clearly not the cathedral organist so who cares whether or not it's an approved hymn.

  • @Organist6792 - Dude, you're the one who needs to lighten up. I responded to the original comment which was some uptight whining that the hymn being played doesn't have the Rome "stamp of approval".

  • @HBK30075 If God is truly calling them to be an organist then they should be an organist. People can not just drop everything they have been working on for several years and abandon all of their hopes and dreams just because some incosiderate and rude person like you thinks they should. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, even organists. Im sure you have made several mistakes in pieces you play. You need to be kind and considerate and not be so cruel.

  • @HBK30075 Also this organist is not giving the profession a"bad rap". What gives the profession a bad rap is people like you who criticize other fellow organists with cruel comments. If I went to a worship service at a church and the organist was performing muisc like this with a strong registration, I would be thrilled. Also organ playing is a dying art so it is a miracle to even find an organist these days. You should not tell people they "need to find another calling".

  • @HBK30075 I dont consider this bad playing at all. Sure there were some mistakes but this isnt a public performance, it is most likely a practice session. Also the organist probably got the honor of playing this fine instrument that they have never got to play before so they were probably still getting used to the instrument. Also you need to lighten up. There is nothing wrong with this registration at all. This registration would support a lively congregation who enjoys singing.

  • @Chesterbarnes1 - There are a ton of organists out there playing like this in actual worship services and giving the profession a bad rap. There is nothing "cruel" here. All one has to do is watch American Idol auditions to see that the "everybody's a winner" mentality today yields a whole lot of people who need to find another "calling". Often that requires someone just being honest and telling them so.
