State of Oregon High School 4A Championship Race. Won by Jed Tolbert of Henley High School of Klamath Falls May 28, 2010 5/28/2010 Hayward Field, Eugene Oregon.

Herald and News summation of the race:
Jed Tolbert trained to get close.
His pure will drove him to victory.
The Henley senior stayed close to the pack for most of his 3,000-meter race, then broke away with his signature 500-meter kick to finish in a blistering 8 minutes, 44.13 seconds and earn his first victory in the Class 4A state track and field championships at Hayward Field.
"You can train all your life, but if you don't have the willpower to pass the block when you get tired and hit that wall, then all your training is pointless," Tolbert said. "You can have the body, but you have to have the mind, as well."
Tolbert gives the Hornet program a distance winner in each of the last five state meets, after Taylor Wallace won four consecutive girls 1,500 and 3,000 titles.
Tolbert also was the 4A cross country champion last fall, and this victory, he felt, validated his status among the state's elite.
"It just proves to me that I've got more than I think I do," Tolbert said. "It's not a fluke. It's what I am. It's a great feeling, just to prove to the people and myself that I can do it."

5/23/2010 Quote by Jed Tolbert, a week before the state meet...
Tolbert wins twice
For some, winning a Skyline Conference track and field event is the ultimate goal.
Don't count Henley's Jed Tolbert among that group.
The senior took first in the 3,000 on Friday and the 1,500 on Saturday to spearhead his way to two conference titles.
While Tolbert is proud of his performance over the weekend, he believes that a pair of district championships are only stepping stones to the one goal that he has in mind — winning a state championship.
Tolbert holds the second best 1,500 time in the state, second only to Parker Bennett of Sisters
Tolbert was already looking forward to the challenge minutes after earning his district title.
"If he wants to win, he's going to have to bleed to do it," Tolbert said. "If he really wants to beat me, he'll have to give every ounce that he has."
