  • I certainly admire Ian Carmichael on screen. And yes, his Lord Peter Wimsey is exquisite, my preference. Recalling that the Golden Age of British Mystery described by peregrinusnoctis includes the works of Agatha Christie, I place dear David Suchet's M Poirot at the top, Belgian or not.

Rather than compare, I relish both actors, Carmichael and Suchet. They merit the affection and respect of their millions of fans around the world. And now, for Ian Carmichael, around and beyond this world.

  • Whoops--my mistake, there.

An OBE--so, not a "sir," precisely, but certainly every inch the matched equal of many a "sir'!

  • Thank you for posting this! Sir Ian was a classic.

While it is true that there were other more critically-lauded actors, I know of few who seemed so very immersed in their roles, and so self-aware of their performances. I still consider his Lord Peter Wimsey to be the most sensitive, appropriate and perfect rendition of any of the popular adaptations of any sleuth from the the Golden Age of the British Mystery. Sheer perfection.

    Requiescat in pace.
