This is Sensei Bob King throwing Sensei Scott Caulderhead as they perform a freestyle kata as part of the aikido events at the 2003 Arnold Battle of Columbus. Both teach in Mansfield, Ohio.

  • I like just traditional Aikido. Other styles don't seem very elegant and benefit. Aikido should be studier with a partner, non with an enemy.

  • I don't practice it, but I am a fan. If there was a dojo in my city I would do that along with MMA!

  • @theshninja Ummm, yeah, good concept! Nariyama does someting like it, check vids of his demos. Also take a look into Lee Ah Loi's interpretations of the koryu kata sets dai yon and dai go, maybe for examples of something like that, Tomiki and Ohba put together for examples of traditional throws like singles and fireman's carry front and rear and under-hook tosses. where you practice tomikiryu?

  • As a fan of tomiki aikido and MMA, I love to see the armbar in freestyle kata... One day, I would like to see in a freestyle kata; Tori shoots deep for a double leg (morote gari?) and then picks the uke up and tosses them behind him (or her, of course). I can see it performed very smoothly by an Tomiki aikidoka.

  • @markanglemyer Thanks, that was a fun kata to do. I know of Dan Pfeifer, met him in the late 8os/early 90's. I'm not sure I've ever met sensei Stanhope. I studied under sensei scott calderhead for years and nowield Tomiki Aikido.

  • Awesome demo gents! This is what Tomiki should be! Smooth, tight circles and effective! I study under Mike Stanhope Sensei at Chillicothe who trained under Dan Piefer and Merritt Stevens Sensei do you guys know of them?

  • @cwkinser Some fishermen are masters...master baiters! Hah, hah. And my reply is as insightful as your comment...

  • @knoxzoo75 And your point is??

  • @cwkinser And if spoiting BS was worth a nickel you would be a millionaire

  • Why thank you darlin'! Come by the new place some time
