One for the weekend warriors... Audio track by RojoDelChocolate. And that really is Mr. Chocolate himself playing some jungle-action on his drum kit to a bunch of garage band loops. Give the man some props!

Here's the 48,000 mile-old 7-bolt I blew up this summer after over 150 drag passes, a half dozen dyno sessions, 4 transmissions, 3 clutches and 10 years of hard all-weather use. The cleanliness of the crankcase and overall lack of carbon buildup is a testament to the quality of Mobil1 Synthetic oil.

Now this is a story all about how
My bearings got flipped-turned upside down
And I liked to take a minute just sit right there
And tell you how I used to mix and burn my gas and my air.

In RVA suburbs born and raised
On the dragstrip is where I spent most of my days
Chillin out, maxin, relaxing all cool,
And all shooting some BS outside with my tools
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started running races in my neighborhood
I heard one little knock and my rods got scared
And said "You put it in the garage until you figure out where..."
I Begged and pleaded that it not be that way,
But it didn't want to start and run another day.
I kissed it goodbye, because the motor punched its ticket
I got out my camera, said "I might as well kick it."

Crankwalk yo this is bad
Drinking metal shavings from an oil pan.
Is this what the rumor of crankwalk is like?
Hmm this won't be alright
But wait I heard knocking, grinding and all that
Is this the type of failure that should happen to this cool cat?
I don't think so, I'll see when I get there
I hope they're prepared for this video I share.

Well I pulled all the bolts and when I came out
There were chunks in my fluids in the pan and they drained out
I aint trying to get depressed cause I got all my spares out.
I sprang into action like lightning disassembled
I whistled while I worked and my hands never trembled
The 7-bolt was FRESH with the shine like a mirror
If anything I can say this bling was rare
What I saw inside the engine stained my underwear.

I turned off the air compressor 'bout 7 or 8
And I yelled to crankcase "Yo homes, smell ya later"
I looked at my internals they were finally there
To sit on my workbench and stink up the air.

  • It looks like it did not walk?

  • @slimshadie1290 Thrust clearance is .007". This one went more than twice that. That contributed to me kicking my accessory belts off repeatedly during the last 3 months of its life. I was questioning whether or not a new set of bearings could correct it because the mains weren't worn otherwise. Aside from the thrust bearing, the other mains were in-spec. It moved enough to exceed the rod gap, and at 8000 RPMs... that's not good. I may have an oil pump failure as well. Dunno if b4 or after.

  • I know I am late, but I love the Fresh Prince remix. Don't know what rainy day you started writting that one on but it turned out pretty nice. When we tore down my buddies 7 bolt his rod bearings looked the same and he had a ton of endplay. Happy building and I know that you will keep us posted.

  • @robertbaxley You're not late, you commented right when you were supposed to!

I swear to you I didn't even get the idea to do that until I was sitting on the upload screen with my 2.3GB file. I had 45 minutes to kill and an empty description field. I sat there for about 15 minutes wondering how to comment on probably the most controversial subject about DSMs without starting a flame war. I had it completed prior to the upload finishing. No lie.

My solution = make people laugh instead. :)

  • hey jafro, whats up with that longblock you sent to machine shop ? is it ready to be build ?

  • @sharky322 Nah, the holidays seem to have disrupted everyone's schedules, including mine. It's not even cleaned up for powder coating yet. In the meantime I have collected over 9 hours of video of Colt fabrication work, still have plenty more to go for a finished product... but I'm still working hard making more videos while we're waiting.

  • great video im thinking about buying an eclipse gst or better yet gsx what are some of the things i need to look out for in the motor?

  • Jafro- Thanks for taking the time and posting such great videos. I've watched this at least a half dozen times, and some of the silly stuff is hilarious. My Talon has been sitting in the garage for three years now, but after watching these videos (and finally having some extra cash), I think I'm ready to pull the motor and try to fix it myself (I have a spun bearing). Keep up the good work!

  • did you go to school to learn about these engines or did you just learn it over time with racing and such?

  • lol! Never thought engine tear-down would be funny.. Good video! I get to see what actually happens in the bottom end.

  • Awesome vid! Good luck with the build

  • oh and another thing... what duration cam's are you running?

  • i really like that intake alot. magnus does great work on their intake mani's. did you do your own egr valve work? or is that done by a manufacturer?

  • @Jafromobile That was a very good and effective alternative. Instead of a pissing contest I got to read comments and a discription with some never before seen humor. Great job and 45 min is an accoplishment in itself. Look forward to the colt videos and I have to catch up on the CAPS one too. There is no way to like the discription twice so the video like will have to do. Keep us posted and hopefully I will see you in Richmond this summer.
