NOME, Alaska - A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew lands on a frozen sea ice sheet on Jan. 18, 2012. Coast Guard ice landings are extremely rare, requiring extensive safety testing of ice prior to execution. U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer Eric J. Chandler.

  • @pepsibookcat You roll your eyes because they missed christmas with thier familys to get oil to nome. Guess the people of nome would have enjoyed christmas with thier familys just before they froze to death in the -20 degree winter up there. These men enlisted in a branch of the military. Sacrificing holidays is something they accept.

  • D-model? i don't see an O.A.D.S........this must be a weight testing? that's at least 8900 lbs of helicopter landing there. Great job!!!

  • Visually, this is a very beautiful video.

Also, that pilot has nerves of steel!

Now, please get that Healey crew home! They missed Christmas with their families so Nome could get oil?!? *rolls eyes*
