For some reason, I was on the train and the chorus of this song popped into my head. I couldn't shake it off. I got home, got on YouTube and played this video. I have been playing it over and over for days. This song, Pitney's voice, is awesome. His delivery is amazing, so restrained and refined. Serious, serious performance. This kind of music is long, long gone.

I remember this as a small boy thinking it was very much like Dr Who !

My all-time favorite song. The first time I heard it, it sent shivers down my spine

@SuperSimonuk But where did the accusation of rape come from? Marianne admitted to having relations with so many men, and it was all for pleasure - her own.

@sapphiretaurus just because he had a fling with her it doesnt mean he never raped her, just as marital rape exists.
-
@SuperSimonuk He had a fling with her, but he didn't rape her.

@gafpb I had met Gene twice. What is most significant is like was mentioned-he had class. He was serious in real life and a no nonsense person. Married to the same woman all his life and was not on drugs or scandalous. He had the Gregory Peck personna if you know what I mean.

Pure class! Music with feeling and a story to it!

My mum always had the radio on when I was growing up (60's) and any Gene Pitney track takes me straight back then. As a (very) grown up I now appreciate how unique his voice was. Brilliant post - thanks.
You need to edit the title - it's 24 hrs FROM Tulsa, not TO Tulsa! But thanks for the upload - the great Gene Pitney!
