This is a handy knot for tying on nymphs, streamers, dries, emergers, etc. It allows you to fish some heavier tippet materials and still maintain movement of the fly in the water unlike your traditional clinch knots that are fixed position knots. It's a handy knot that has been used to catch a lot of fish over the years and is basically the same knot as a double surgeon's that you use for tying tippet to leader and thus is an easy one to remember!
