Ray's 100 birthday celebration was held in John Day, Oregon on September 23, 2004.
Ray Rasmussen was born on September 23, 1904, in Rowland, Wisconsin. He attended school until the age of 14 then went to work in the woods with his dad. Ray has 11 brothers and sisters.
In 1937, Ray traveled west and ended up in Pendleton, Oregon. He met Edna there and they married in 1941. He help run a dairy farm out of Pendleton for two years, and then changed professions by going to work at the Pilot Rock Lumber Company in Pilot Rock. After that he worked at a few other lumber mills as well as raised fruit and vegetables.
In 1949 he moved to the little community of Fox in Eastern Oregon and worked at a small sawmill there. In 1950, he took a job in the logging community of Bates, Oregon. He lived and worked there for 18 years. After that he worked for years by himself in the woods harvesting small timber for poles (fence railings; etc.) in the central Oregon area.
Ray and Edna have six children: Yvonne, Lenora, Flora, Floyd, Norm, & Dale. Ray enjoyed playing the card game of Cribbage and won many professional contests he entered. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and outdoor recreational hobbies. Ray's wife, Edna, passed on June 25, 1997. Ray lived to be 103 ½ years old, passing on June 28, 2008.
