Part 3 - My Response to Who wrote the Bible

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuGu9d12BYc&feature=PlayList&p=573402B...

A Survey of Old Testament Introduction
By Gleason Archer
pp. 149, 150

The Ras Shamra tablets (1400 B.C.), which contain a large amount of Ugaritic literature, render the Wellhausen post-exilic concept void. Many of the technical sacarificial terms of Leviticus were discovered in far removed Canaanite-speaking Ugarit (1400 B.C.). Such P terms as:

1) ishsheh - "offering made by fire"
2) kalil - "whole burnt offering"
3) shelamin - "peace offering"
4) asham - "guilt offering"

Archer is correct in concluding that "these terms were already current in Palestine at the time of Moses and the conquest, and that the whole line of reasoning which made out the terminology of the Levitical cultus to be late is devoid of foundation."

The antiquity of Hebrew writing and literature
By Alvin Sylvester Zerbe

Need we marvel that the prophets (who often quote from memory contain only a few direct references to Deuteronomy?". However, the number of quotations is sufficiently numerous to establish the claim that Deuteronomy was extant in the eighth century.

  • Have you seen ProfMTH's series "Jesus was not the Messiah?"

    user/ProfMTH#p/c/2529F79EEAF4B995/0/wx5EKaY1B8g

    It's fairly compelling.

  • @Mectrixctic Have you seen my response to ProMTH? Peace be with you.

  • Thats Great ! Unfortunately in the last 50 yrs of university shmaltz in the U.S.A research led by dubious funding to support certain schools and there "circuit preachers" propound extravagant bullshit. Having stood on both sides of the fense, I agree with you on the Messiah issue, the more i tried to disprove ,which is weighty, the more i found proof of, The Dead sea scrolls and Rabbinic writings from the 7th -13th centuries being very convincing.

  • Thank you! I think the turning point for me came when I let go of my protestant reasons for believing Jesus was the Christ and began to study the many views of the Jewish sages. Now I can see the Messiah in Yeshua and not rest my beliefs in '70 weeks of Daniel' ideas which to me were revealed for what they were, Dispensationalism, an idea which I never realized how much shaped my Greek mindset.

  • Nice Yes we would kick back have a beer and argue about religion...LOL Thanks I was worried. Well done. I agree that the text of Deuteronomy come from 900 BCE. Due to the Assyrian treaty format. But Just because older material is collected and formatted though out history does not mean older texts are mixed with later language. We find this in the Psalms.

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • @TruthCeeker333

    I shall watch it soon.

  • Man, I noticed your good a speculating, and supposing what others may do. Good but boring, and missing the real point about the scripture

  • If the text of Deuteronomy was found during the reformation of Josiah then the Prophets would quote from it.

  • In response to the comments in the details, from P if his sources had such words embedded, then they would be there when he compiled his versions.
