Many soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) become wounded while putting their lives on the line to protect the Land of Israel. Often these wounds are life-threatening and profoundly life-altering. Established in December 2005 by wounded IDF veteran Dror Dagan, the Dror for the Wounded Foundation provides financial assistance and social support to severely wounded IDF soldiers in the greatest need. This assistance serves as aid above and beyond that provided by the Ministry of Defense. Dror for the Wounded provides assistance in the areas of advocacy, evaluation, medical and psychological treatments, education and employment, general financial aid and enhancing the quality of life.
On February 2, 2004, Dror Dagan, an Israeli soldier in the Duvdevan special forces unit, was shot twice from point blank range in the eye and chest while on a misstion to arrest a terrorist leader. Dror required a life saving operation that had only a 50% survival rate. The government initially would not fund the operation and Dror had to come up with over $300,000 on his own. Dror survived the operation and while he was recovering, he made a vow that he would do something for other wounded soldiers so that they would not experience the same challenges that he suffered through. He founded Dror for the Wounded in Israel in 2005 for this purpose. Dror believes he survived for a reason. And so do we.
