Oh, for Petes sake, how could they not recognize historical accuracy? Rudy's mannerisms fit the context. When he was in his barber shop and at home he was naturally charming. As for the way he looked, all aristocratic men of that period dressed that way and wore that kind of makeup and fake beauty marks. It was courtly, not feminized! Rudy was made to suffer for doing the right thing!
As for virility, when he kissed the princess, my knees turned to water.

(cont'd): If the costumes were overdone, that, too, was historically accurate. As for the direction, I did find the movie overall to be somewhat sprawled out and a little too long. But Rudy was sheer enchantment. He made it worth watching.

I love that he comes out with a theorbo at the end of this clip. The song that was put over the scene doesn't fit though. Beautiful costumes, though!

@susannebass Thats just fine with me LOL! I'll be more than happy to have to put cream on certain parts to ease the pain if I had to hahahah

@IrishEyez01 They did carry containers around, but I thought they just carried snuff boxes containing pulverized tobacco that you took a pinch of and sniffed through your nose. It was sort of a "smokeless smoking." But if the powder was white, then it must've been something else!!
Thanx so much for posting Joy. Great video! I haven't
seen the film in a long time. He is so adorable.
I love his singing at the end.
Thanx for sharing Eli. :-))

Even in black and white the costumes are beautiful. And...I am a little surprised...is the King indulging in a little white powder at 5:20?

@StrictlyMystic I noticed that too and also rudy indulges a little later on in the movie :) I was wondering also if they were having a little "nose candy" lol...I am not familiar with French customs of the times but I wonder if they actually carried little containers like that around?? I agree the costumes were great and from what I've read they spent a fortune on them.
