Our Town: Groton, CT - RE/MAX of New England

This month's "Our Town" takes a look at Mystic/Groton, CT.

Tourists can be found in this coastal community year-round and there's no question why after you get a taste of historic Mystic, CT. Unique in its geography, Mystic is actually part of two different towns. Divided by the Mystic River, you can either be on the Mystic side of Groton and west of the Mystic River or the Mystic side of Stonington and east of the Mystic River. While both areas are easily accessibly to each other simply by crossing a historic drawbridge in downtown Mystic, this month's "Our Town" will primarily focus on the Mystic side of Groton.

Groton is part of New London County and is located in-between New York City and Boston, MA. The area is surrounded by the Thames River and the Mystic River and has close proximity to the Long Island Sound. Many homes in this area have views of the Sound or easy access to the waterfront. Groton is also home to many large corporations including, the General Dynamics branch of Electric Boat, which creates submarines for the United States Navy and employs over 10,000 people. Pfizer is also located on the Groton side of Mystic, which is the largest research-based pharmaceutical company in the world. Both corporations are major employers of people in the area.
