As an Irish person, other Irish people annoy me criticizing Americans for identifying with their past and their history; our history! The Americans have helped us (despite the wrong the American government may have inflicted on other nations) in terms of achieving independence and the Peace Process in the North.

True story. Did you know that most Irish immigrants did NOT enter America through Ellis Island? Castle Gardens in the Battery (the southern tip of Manhattan) was where most Irish ( and others, of course) entered the country. Ellis Island was only opened in 1892, when most Irish were already in... true story.
