Well, Mohammed talked to the pagans of Arabia, who had deities (singular: ʾIlāh - إله‎ ; plural: ʾālihah - آلهة)

So, what's actually written there is "There's no other deity but Allah"! Allah was the traditional moon god of the Arabs, the ruler over the arabic pantheon of gods, one for each day! Mohammed abolished all the deities and kept Allah as the only god possible, imitating Jews/Christians! But he had to get things straight: "no other deity but Allah"!

@prudente559 The God from the Bible has a name, Yahweh.It decribes him as "I am what I am".I wonder if this allah is the same as the "unknown" god Paul talked about in Acts 17:23...Man has always known there was a God, Its just that he tends to imagine him as he (or the culture) would like him to be.Any ideas on why allah couldnt keep the Bible pure but could keep the quran pure?(from a muslim standpoint)
