Poor Boy
Words & Music by Vera Matson / Elvis Presley
This song is from Elvis Presley's first movie "Love me tender".
Lyrics:
(Chorus)
They call me poor boy, poor boy, poor boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I've got a darling like you
(Chorus)
Ain't got a crust, ain't got a cent
Can't buy a jug, can't pay the rent
I got a heartful of dreams
And a lot of memories
And that's enough for me
(Chorus)
Can't buy a house, can't buy a lot
Ain't got a bean, I ain't got a pot
But what I got is a heartful of
Love and memories
And that's enough for me
(Chorus)
Don't have a pig, don't have a cow
I don't have a horse to pull a plow
But what I got is a heartful of
Love and memories
And that's enough for me
They call me poor boy, poor boy, poor boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I've got a darling like
I've got a darling like
I've got a darling like ... you
Recorded: 24 August, 1956
Trivia.
A guy called Ken Darby actually wrote all of the soundtrack songs for the movie, Love me tender. He credited this song to his wife, Vera Matson. Colonel Tom Parker decided to also credit Presley with the writing so he (Parker) could get a cut of the song royalties for his publishing company, Hill and Range.
