This short film stars Edgar Bergen and his young pal, Charlie McCarthy, the hugely popular radio duo. Bergen plays a judge, and McCarthy is a young boy on a school trip to find out how the justice system works.

  • ...and someone from the J. Walter Thompson ad agency {representing Rudy Vallee's radio sponsor, Standard Brands} caught their act, and convinced Vallee that he shoud feature Edgar and Charlie as guests on his "ROYAL GELATIN HOUR" that December. They were an instant hit, and were soon featured regularly on "THE CHASE AND SANBORN HOUR" (also a Standard Brands product) in May 1937, eventually becoming the stars of the program...

  • Edgar and Charlie appeared in numerous Warner Bros.-Vitaphone shorts from 1931 through 1936, while they were looking for their "big break" in vaudeville and night clubs. It wasn't until their engagement at Helen Morgan's night club in New York in 1936 that Bergen got the idea that Charlie should look like a "man about town" for that club's clientele- and from then on, he was decked out in top hat, white tie, and tails....
