Part 2 in a series. Monica threw for 1 1/2 to 2 hours as a demonstration outside of Artizann's in Naples, NY. It was a beautiful sunny day, cars drive by (as you can hear). Monica explains the mystique of throwing big pots; she even stumbles a bit asking me if I have the envy.

  • Since I've never had a class I find I look at things that are probably common sense to others, like how she holds the rib upright and looks like she pushes from the inside.

Every little tip helps! Thanks for sharing!

  • I think that while pottery has some universal truths, there isn't any one style and therein lies beauty. It gives everyone a chance to explore the clay medium, find out what works and what doesn't and adapt. Observing other artists is great and if they interact, it's even better. Peace.

  • Basically her first two fingers are pressed against her thumb forming a pseudo-tripod. Using the tips and not the pads, Monica creates 1/4 inch throwing marks. Hope that helps.

  • What are the position of her fingers when she pulls that first single hand pull? Claire
