The idea cholesterol leads to heart disease is based on the 27 Countries Test (commonly called 7 Countries Test) done by a Dr Ancel Keyes. The 27 pieces of data showed that cholesterol was not related to heart disease; however, Keyes was convinced this was not the case so he only considered the 7 pieces of data that agreed with his theory, hence why it is commonly called the 7 Countries Test.
