You're argument is flawed.. If you walk straight up to someone and kick them in the balls, you take the whole "own choice" thing out of the equation. It's not the same.

The problem is that "its better than the alternative" is a well with no bottom.

Better to make barely enough than to be a slave. Better to be a slave than to be killed. Better to be killed than tortured to death. Better to be tortured to death than to first watch your kids and family be tortured to death first then be tortured to death yourself.

Well, sure, but that doesn't make any of it good. Most anything is better than something else.

While what you said is true, keep in mind that many countries with these sweat shops aren't just better than SOME alternatives; they're better jobs than MOST in their country. Keep in mind that, in America, sweat shops would be the worst jobs in the market, but in some other countries, working in a sweat shop is one of the better jobs you can realistically hope to get.

How much freedom do you really have when you get to make a choice but all the options are awful?

It's never fallacious to appreciate significant improvement. Period.

These "sweat shop" employees had, shall we say, their balls cut off before Wallmart came to town. These employees likely would fight and probably have fought to keep "sweat shop" jobs, as they ARE fighting for a better life.
