The first phase of a massive wind power project in McBain is nearing its completion.
The first of the two enormous wind turbines being installed as part of the project received its blades this morning. The turbine falls within the top 10 in both size and output power in North America. It will be capable of powering about 800 households.
Heritage Sustainable Energy of Traverse City is heading the Wind Farm Project, which has been in the works for about 4 years. When the first two wind turbines are completed, they'll be capable of powering a total of about 1,500 to 1,700 households; Heritage plans to install more turbines over the coming years.
We'll continue following this story as the project progresses, and more coverage will be available at our web site over the coming weeks. For now, I'm Eric Wotila reporting for local-edition.com.
