Locus Iste was composed by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) for the dedication of a votive chapel at the Cathedral of Linz where he had been the cathedral organist. Bruckner used the large open chords and a slow moving harmonic rhythm to slowly build an echo for the Cathedral space The rests toward the end of the work (measure 43) reflects the length of time it would take for the echo to fade before introducing the final phrase.
