INTERVIEW (in french) with Robert Normand, designer
" I think I had the most trouble with collection. It came from the idea of the song by Barbara, the Black Eagle, an extremely harsh and moving song, when we know this story, I feel that we are afraid of it, afraid of being plunged in this universe. This song really touched me. When I was back to Paris I went over the codes and the colours codes really struck me. I found all of the colours I wanted to talk about. I found the incredibly dense night, and the floating water, its mirrors, its reflections shading into the white; the night gave me all of these colours. Then I started thinking about butterflies, I love butterflies, they are full of movement, they come, they go, they live, they die, they are short lived, all of a sudden I found the night butterfly. With codes of dots and all of a sudden I told myself, wow, its great! I had just been working with a Japanese artist Yayoi Kuzama, who is a woman I adore, and for 30 years she asked to be put in an asylum to free herself from the her own work rotating around the polka dot. It's very amusing to think that I starting from Barbara, then to a butterfly, ending with an artist who all of a sudden brings us to unbelievable depths. And what I found interesting in this movement is when I look at fashion today, it's fascinating to find this mirror between the masculine and the feminine. When a woman looks at herself in the mirror, I almost feel like she sees a bit of both, it's in this battle to which we are subjected. I feel that once again to be able to put women in a place where they feel beautiful and to give them what they need to feel this way, is my dream, I love that and that's why I chose to do this on a daily basis."
